Doornkraal has always had horses. We have relied on them for the many generations and the 140 years that this farm has been in care of the Le Roux family. And although horses are not used any more in the daily farming activities, they remain loved and trusted companions. We highly value a good temperament, willingness and kindness towards people in a riding horse.

Therefore DOORNKRAAL HORSES are carefully selected from various bloodlines of South African horses that was bred for local conditions – the legendary Cape Riding Horse, Boerperd and Nooitgedachter – known for their outstanding temperament, versatility, riding comfort and sure-footedness.

The big variety of routes were selected to introduce riders to the breath taking and unspoilt Klein Karoo landscape. Duration of rides are from 1½ hours to multi day guided adventures.

We accommodate riders of all ages and skill levels.

GUIDES AND INSTRUCTORS
Always present to assist.

OUR HORSES
Well schooled Boerperd, Nooitgedacht and Cape Riding Horses, selected for temperament, sure-footedness and character.

LEVEL OF RIDING EXPERIENCE
Tenderfoot (totally new to riding); Beginner/Novice (starting to learn the ropes, but lacks confidence); Intermediate (has some experience); Experienced (can ride well)

NUMBER OF RIDERS
Maximum number of riders per activity is limited to 10-12, depending on the activity. Minimum 1 rider. If you are booking a ride, you might be joined by other riders of the same level of skill.

TAILOR MADE TRIPS
All activities can be tailor made according to your preferences. We can go as extravagant as you wish, adding extra riding hours, special catering etc.

PICNICS AND SUNDOWNERS
Can be arranged at least one day in advance as part of any riding activity. Cost per person from R200/p for sundowners or from R300/p for a picnic.

KIDS’ PARTIES AND TEAM BUILDING
Book our venue with riding as an activity for a group for a fun day!

BOOKINGS
Essential, even if you decide to join us at the last minute.

STARTING TIMES
Between 08:00 and 17:00 daily. Please arrive 15 minutes before your starting time to sign an indemnity and fit a riding hat.

DRESS
Long pants or riding breeches and closed, sensible shoes. Avoid clothing which can be damaged by shrubs and branches (down jackets, microfibre)

RIDING CAPS
Supplied by us. Riders are requested to wear a cap for the duration of the outride or activity.

MAXIMUM WEIGHT OF RIDER
100 kg.

INDEMNITY
Kindly complete on arrival.
