Oudtshoorn is the town that averages 333 days sunshine a year! Lodge96 which is a brand new venue for Backpackers has immaculate double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and the dorms (only 8 people at a time) also have their own bathrooms. Nearby are awesome mountain passes and scenic red hill drives (great to do with a mountain bike if you so wish), stunning waterfall picnic spots, & natural thermal baths (nice!). We can also arrange quad biking, abseiling, a visit to the famous Cango Caves, kayaking on a gorgeous dam nestled against the Swartberg mountains and paintballing just down the road from us. Also within a 30 minute drive you can visit some excellent vineyards. Explore this traditional Afrikaaner town where you can stroke white tigers or cheetahs, dive with a 4m crocodile, ride an ostrich, eat ostrich (yum!).
In season, help yourself to figs, grapes, apricots, peaches, plums, granadillas and more from our garden. Other treats close by include shopping for hand-made Belgian chocolates (made on their own premises) or, try out some of the delicious local goat’s milk cheeses at the local farm shop. The interesting town centre is within walking distance—be sure to visit the Museum to learn the history of ostrich farming.
The spanking new Lodge96 hostel is so new there are no sagging mattresses! This smaller hostel provides an intimate service, great character and excellent travel advice from the resident owner
