AVOOVA began life some 12 years ago in a small workshop on the edge of a remote Karoo town.
Once there was a lone artist experimenting with the natural materials to be found in the vast expanses around him, now there is a company exporting to fifteen countries, with four AVOOVA shops in South Africa. The eye-catching, creamy veneers created with thousands of shards of ostrich eggshell – AVOOVA’s hallmark – are testament to an artist’s curiosity and the beauty of nature.
From beautiful barware to refined table tops.
Born of the African ostrich, this ancient material has been transformed by the company’s artisans into a luxurious decorative finish that surpasses organic veneers from around the world for its beauty and functionality. Everything from bespoke tables to bowls and mirrors are lovingly handcrafted by a team of skilled designers and artisans, who can work the shards of shell into a myriad of textures, colours and patterns.
A story of authenticity and ingenuity, of sustainability and social upliftment.
Committed to keeping production in the Karoo where it started, AVOOVA sources eggshell from reputable, local ostrich breeders, upcycling from hatched or unfertilised eggs; a process that is both sustainable and environmentally-friendly. There are now in excess of 50 full time staff working at the company’s factory in Prince Albert, making it the largest private employer and a true treasure of the Karoo.
It’s these people that infuse each design with the kind of compelling beauty that stands the test of time.
So, from an artist’s inspiration has grown a business employing talented and dedicated artisans, designers, marketers and store managers, taking a humble material from the vast open expanse of the Karoo into the finest homes and interiors all over the world.
